How to check the battery charge cycle and maximize the battery?

Notebook is battery is notorious for poor and poor performance over time. In day one, you can use your notebook for, say 5 hours, but some months later, the battery cannot sustain the work of an hour or two! So you need to carefully deal with the battery.

MacBook Air has a built-in battery, meaning that one cannot replace the battery by oneself. We need Apple to do the replacement work and it is expensive!

To check how the battery status in Macintosh, do the following:
1. Click the Apple icon on the menu bar and choose "About this Mac"
2. Click on "More Info" and then "System Report"
3. Click on the "Power" under Hardware:

You can find under the heading "Health Information" about the status of your battery. As this is my new MacBook Air, it has only a battery cycle count of 3 and condition is normal. It is pretty good!

So how should one use the battery? According to Apple, here is the suggestion:
"For proper maintenance of a lithium-based battery, it’s important to keep the electrons in it moving occasionally. Apple does not recommend leaving your portable plugged in all the time. An ideal use would be a commuter who uses her notebook on the train, then plugs it in at the office to charge. This keeps the battery juices flowing. If on the other hand, you use a desktop computer at work, and save a notebook for infrequent travel, Apple recommends charging and discharging its battery at least once per month. "
